فيروز (Fairouz) is a Lebanese singer. Her stage name literally means "turquoise". She is popularly known as "the soul of Lebanon" and considered by many as one of the leading vocalists and most famous singers in the history of the Arab world. Fairouz began her musical career as a teenager. From chorus girl at the Lebanese radio station in the late 1940s, to critical and popular acclaim from the 1950s to today, she is acknowledged not only for her musical talent, but also as a cultural and political icon.
